The picturesque village of Cross is situated mid way between the towns of Westport, Castlebar and Galway City, and is approximately 30km from each town. It is 1.5 hours from Ireland West Airport, 1 hour from Galway Airport and 2 hours from Shannon Airport.

There are several local attractions in the area, Fishing been the most popular.
There are two beautiful golf courses within 15 minute drive from Cross one of these being on the beautiful grounds of Ashford Castle renowned 5 star hotel the other is Ballinrobe Golf Course. There are also many beautiful walks to be taken in and around the castle, you can also go horse riding if you your not feeling up to the walking.
From Lisloughrey pier you can get the ferry to Inchagoill island on Lough Corrib.

A great battle took place between the Firbolgs and the Tuatha de Danann (ancient tribes of Ireland) on the great plain of Moytura in Cross. They played the first ever hurling match on those plains. The Firbolgs outshone that day, but the battle was won by the Tuatha de Danann. Ballymagibbon Cairn was erected to celebrate the battle.
From Christian times you can still see the ruins of St Fura's church at Ballymagibbon (7th Century). An interesting relic of this old ruin is now placed in the porch of Cross church. It is a carved stone having in relief the figure of a child.
